EastBanc Technologies Supports District of Columbia e-Government Project
Citizen-facing Portal Wins Prestigious Award
For the second time, the Washington, DC, web portal has won one of the online public sector’s most coveted awards. On September 29, 2005, the portal was named Best of the Web by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government. The portal was awarded top honors in the City Portal Category, having also placed first in 2003.
The DC portal presents a “single face” of the District government for residents, businesses, visitors, and employees. Featuring over 120 transactional applications and branded around the slogan, “Your City at Your Service,” the site received more than 11 million visits in 2004.
EastBanc Technologies' personnel were responsible for engineering the web services infrastructure which supports the 150,000-page portal. The project included development of requirements, engineering, implementation, and operations of the completely updated infrastructure. As a result, the system provides increased throughput and improved reliability while maintaining the flexibility and scalability the District demands.
